Lucknow, UP: Medical interns in Uttar Pradesh have urged Deputy Chief Minister and Minister of Medical Education Brajesh Pathak to raise their monthly stipend, citing financial strain. Currently receiving ₹12,000 per month, they pointed out that interns in states like Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Delhi earn between ₹20,000 to ₹30,000.
In a letter to authorities, the CMJ Doctors Welfare Federation India emphasized that interns work long hours, assist in surgeries, and manage emergency cases, yet their stipend barely covers essential expenses like rent, food, and transportation. Dr. Sudhanshu Pandey, State President of the Federation, stated that they have formally requested the government to increase the stipend to at least ₹25,000–₹30,000 per month.
Interns argue that a higher stipend would not only ease financial burdens but also boost morale and encourage more young doctors to serve in government hospitals. They believe this change will improve healthcare services in the state. While Uttar Pradesh has made strides in healthcare, doctors insist that fair compensation is crucial to sustaining progress. The state government has yet to respond to their demands.
