Punjab MBBS/BDS 2026: Govt Notifies New Admission Criteria, Fees & Bond Rules

The Government of Punjab has issued a new notification laying down the admission criteria for MBBS and BDS courses in Government and Private Medical/Dental Institutes across the state for the 2026 session onwards. The notification supersedes all previous admission notifications for MBBS/BDS courses in Punjab and will apply uniformly to Government Quota, Management Quota, NRI Quota and Minority Quota seats.

    All admissions will continue to be based on NEET UG merit, with Baba Farid University of Health Sciences (BFUHS), Faridkot, authorised to conduct centralised counselling for state quota and private college seats. The 15% All India Quota seats in Government Institutes will, as before, be filled separately by the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC).

    Eligibility Criteria for State Quota

    Candidates seeking admission under Punjab’s state quota must be Citizens of India and satisfy at least one of the following conditions:

    • Passed 10+1 and 10+2 examinations from a school located in Punjab, or
    • Were born in the state of Punjab, or
    • Are a permanent resident of Punjab, including candidates who studied in Punjab for 5 years (or 2 years immediately preceding the qualifying exam), children of Punjab or Central Government employees posted in connection with Punjab affairs, children of Punjab Government pensioners, or persons who have resided/worked in Punjab for at least 5 years

    Wards of defence personnel posted in Punjab, NRI category candidates, and candidates belonging to minority communities competing for minority quota seats are also eligible under separate provisions.

    Punjab MBBS/BDS 2026 Fee Structure

    The notification fixes annual fees separately for government institutes, private institutes and NRI quota seats. We have provided the complete fee structure in the tables below.

    Hostel fee has been fixed at ₹19,800 annually, with a 5% increase every subsequent year from the 2015 base index.

    SGRD University, Amritsar, will charge ₹12,06,000 in the first year for MBBS, rising to ₹16,00,000 by the fifth year, with a 10% annual increase. Christian Medical College (CMC) and Christian Dental College (CDC), Ludhiana – recognised minority institutions under a Supreme Court order – will charge ₹6.60 lakh per annum for MBBS and ₹2.20 lakh per annum for BDS, also with a 10% yearly increase. All fees remain subject to change as per future Government notifications.

    The reservation for state quota seats in Government Medical/Dental Institutes has been notified as under:

    The same reservation structure applies to state quota seats in Private Institutes, with an additional 1% reservation earmarked for migrants from Jammu & Kashmir displaced due to terrorist violence.

    NRI Quota Seat Distribution

    • 15% of seats in all Private Institutes, Guru Gobind Singh Medical College Faridkot, and AIMS Mohali
    • 13 seats each in Government Medical College, Patiala and Amritsar
    • 3 seats in Government Dental College, Amritsar
    • 4 seats in Government Dental College, Patiala

    NRI seats will be filled in order of preference – first for NRIs/children of NRIs originally belonging to Punjab, followed by those from other Indian states. OCI/PIO candidates will be considered only under the 15% NRI Quota.

    Service Bond Rule for MBBS Candidates

    Candidates admitted to the MBBS course in Government Medical Colleges of Punjab, whether under the State Quota or the All India Quota, must execute a Service Bond of ₹20,00,000 (Rupees Twenty Lakh). The mandatory service obligation is:

    1. Two years for candidates admitted under the State Quota
    2. One year for candidates admitted under the All India Quota

    Candidates who fail to join, complete, or otherwise comply with the bond terms will be liable to pay the entire bond amount of ₹20 lakh, along with any other consequences permissible under law.

    How to Apply for Punjab MBBS/BDS Counselling 2026

    1. Visit the official BFUHS website at bfuhs.ac.in.
    2. Register using NEET UG 2026 roll number and required personal details.
    3. Fill the admission application form and upload the necessary documents, including 10+1 and 10+2 certificates.
    4. Accept the declaration and proceed to choice filling of colleges and courses.
    5. Check the seat matrix and submit fresh choices for each round of counselling.
    6. Download the seat allotment letter after the result is declared and report to the allotted institute with original documents and fee payment proof.

    General Conditions

    • The combined and category-wise merit lists will be published on the BFUHS website at least 7 days before counselling.
    • Admission will be made only to institutes approved by all concerned authorities before the first counselling round.
    • Seats remaining vacant under any reserved or minority category will be transferred to the General Category as per MCC guidelines.
    • The Administrative Secretary, Department of Medical Education & Research, Punjab, will be the competent authority to resolve any dispute arising from this notification.
