ASSAM: The Assam State School Education Board (ASSEB) has cancelled the Class 11 Mathematics examination after confirming an alleged paper leak. Authorities have filed a police complaint and initiated an investigation into the matter. Education Minister Ranoj Pegu announced that a new date for the examination will be communicated soon.
In a post on X, Pegu shared ASSEB’s official notification regarding the postponement of the Higher Secondary First Year Mathematics exam, initially scheduled for March 21, 2025 (Afternoon Session). The notification mentioned “unavoidable reasons” but did not disclose further details.
Paper Leak Confirmed, Legal Action Imminent
A senior ASSEB official, speaking to PTI, verified that the Mathematics question paper was leaked, prompting the cancellation.
“We are investigating the incident and will initiate legal action shortly,” the official confirmed.
The Class 11 Higher Secondary First Year examinations, which began on March 6, are set to conclude on March 29.
Class 9 English Exam in Barpeta Cancelled Due to Paper Leak
A similar situation unfolded in Barpeta district, where the Class 9 English annual examination, scheduled for March 20, was cancelled after the question paper surfaced on social media.
Barpeta Inspector of Schools, Ratul Kumar Das, issued an official order to all school heads in the district, notifying them of the examination’s postponement due to “unavoidable circumstances.”
“The rescheduled date for the examination will be announced soon,” Das stated, refraining from disclosing additional information.
Authorities Suspect Paper Leak, Police Complaint Registered
An official from the District Level Internal Examination Committee (DLIEC) disclosed that authorities became aware of the paper leak on Wednesday evening.
“We suspect the paper was circulated on social media. While verifying all claims, we decided to cancel the examination to avoid further risks,” the official noted.
Later, DLIEC lodged a formal complaint regarding the paper leak at Barpeta Sadar Police Station. The Class 9 examinations in Barpeta, which commenced on March 10, were initially set to conclude on March 22.
Concerns Over Examination Security Escalate
The recurring incidents of paper leaks in Assam have heightened concerns regarding examination security and integrity. Authorities have assured strict action against those involved to prevent future occurrences. Students and parents are advised to follow official announcements for updates on the rescheduled exam dates.
