Chennai: Tamil Nadu Health Minister Ma Subramanian has launched a dedicated mental health counselling service for students who did not pass the NEET-UG 2025 exam. The initiative was rolled out at the 104 helpline centre on the DMS campus.
This year 1,35,715 students from Tamil Nadu appeared for NEET-UG of whom 76,181 qualified and 59,534 did not clear the exam. To support those facing emotional distress, the counselling program has started with 80 trained mental health professionals working in two shifts. So far, senior counsellors have reached out to nearly 600 students.
Minister Subramanian emphasized that failing NEET is not the end of the road. “Students can try again next year. They should stay motivated and continue preparing. Parents also need to remain calm and supportive during this time,” he said.
When questioned about a student from Coimbatore who secured All India Rank 40 but was missing from the official NTA rank list, the Minister confirmed that the state health secretary will write to the National Testing Agency (NTA) seeking clarification on the issue.
This initiative reflects the Tamil Nadu government’s commitment to student mental health and exam stress management, especially for those affected by competitive exams like NEET-UG.
