TAPMI has launched an MBA in AI and Data Science for 2025-26 in collaboration with Microsoft and MAHE to equip future leaders with innovation and data-driven decision-making skills.

As AI and data science (DS) are revolutionizing industries, the need for management professionals with expertise in these areas is growing. In response to this demand, TA Pai Management Institute (TaPMI) in Manipal has unveiled its new MBA program in AI and DS, set to begin in the 2025-26 academic year.

A new era in management education

TAPMI Director Rajeev Kumar said the new MBA programme in AI and Data Science is a significant development in management education. It reflects TAPMI’s dedication to training leaders who can blend business management skills with modern technology. “This programme is designed to give future leaders the tools to make better decisions using AI and data-driven insights,” Kumar said.

Growing Need for AI and DS Skills in India

Gaurav Sarin, Chairman, the MBA (AI & DS) Program, said that the demand for MBA graduates with skills in AI and data science is growing rapidly in India. By 2025, the employment rate for Indian business graduates is expected to grow from 47% in 2021 to 78%. These graduates will work in key positions such as data scientists, machine learning experts and chief data officers in industries such as banking, healthcare, technology and retail.

Sarin also pointed out that salaries for data science roles in India vary depending on experience and job responsibilities, but these experts earn a good salary. “These graduates bridge the worlds of technology and business, using data-driven strategies to innovate and create competitive advantage,” he added.

Who can benefit from the AI and DS MBA programs?

The MBA Program in AI and DS is designed for both individuals with a technical background and individuals with limited experience in the field. Sarin noted that the program combines technical skills with strategic thinking, and critical and analytical abilities are essential for success.

To help bridge any technical knowledge gaps, TAPMI has partnered with the Manipal School of Information Sciences. The first year of the program provides a strong foundation in business management for all students, regardless of their previous technical experience.

Keeping the Curriculum Relevant and Updated

Sarin emphasised that TAPMI actively ensures that the MBA programme in AI and Data Science stays current. The curriculum is regularly updated through industry consultations, partnerships with tech companies and reviews every six to twelve months. “We incorporate the latest AI advancements, real-world case studies, practical projects, guest lectures and hackathons to ensure that our students are prepared for the industry demands,” Sarin said.

Students will also have access to cloud platforms, open-source AI tools and research-based electives to keep up with the latest tech trends.

Partnership with Microsoft and MAHE for Advanced Learning

The programme will benefit from a key partnership between TAPMI, Microsoft India and the wider Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE) network. This collaboration will integrate Microsoft’s Azure Cloud platform with AI and DS technologies into the curriculum. Specialised classes will also be available in the second year, giving students practical access to the latest technologies.

“We are using this partnership across the MAHE ecosystem to provide training and opportunities to students to collaborate with industry experts,” said Sarin.

Future of AI and Data Science Education at TAPMI

Looking ahead, Sarin shared that TAPMI’s AI and data science programs will continue to evolve with greater industry involvement and an emphasis on ethics and governance. He expects that practical learning through real-world projects, AI-driven learning, and collaboration with open-source communities will play a major role in shaping the future of the program.

“In the next five to ten years, the focus of AI and DS programs will shift towards strategic application rather than just coding. New areas such as quantum computing, edge AI, and AI for sustainability will become more important,” Sarin explained. “Also, flexible, modular, and skill-based learning systems will replace traditional degrees, ensuring that graduates meet the changing needs of the industry.”

This innovative MBA program will provide a holistic education in AI and data science, preparing students to lead in the rapidly evolving business and technology sectors.
