Why is Re-NEET 2026 Being Conducted?
The Re-NEET UG 2026 is being held following a paper leak controversy. A “guess paper” allegedly matching a substantial portion of the actual NEET 2026 question paper was reported to have been circulated among certain candidates before the exam, raising serious concerns about the fairness of the national-level test. The matter triggered widespread protests by students, parents and the general public across the country.
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has so far made 13 arrests in the paper leak case across multiple states. A Delhi court recently sent three accused, including a physics lecturer empanelled by NTA as a translator, a Latur-based paediatrician, and a physics tutor, to 14 days of judicial custody.
The Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan has held a high-level review meeting with former ISRO Chairman K. Radhakrishnan to strengthen security arrangements for the re-exam. Pradhan also wrote to all Chief Ministers and Lieutenant Governors, urging strict surveillance during the conduct of the re-examination.

Supreme Court Dismisses CBT Mode Plea
A writ petition was filed in the Supreme Court requesting that the Re-NEET UG 2026 exam scheduled on June 21 be conducted in Computer-Based Test (CBT) mode instead of the traditional pen-and-paper format. The Supreme Court bench of Justices PS Narasimha and Arvind Kumar dismissed the plea and listed the matter for hearing after the court’s vacation.
Notably, the Union Education Minister had separately announced that NEET UG will shift to CBT mode from 2027 onwards.
