National Medical Commission (NMC) chairman Dr BN Gangadhar personally addressed issues related to the NEET PG normalisation process amid concerns expressed by doctors about the timing of the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test Postgraduate (NEET-PG) in two shifts.
Addressing the issues, Dr Gangadhar affirmed that the normalisation process, a worldwide accepted method for calculating the All India Rank (AIR), is trustworthy and not worth fearing. His words, quoted by Education Times, highlighted the international acceptance of the normalisation system.
The announcement made by the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) on June 15, 2025, revealed that the NEET PG exam will be conducted in two shifts: the first shift from 9:00 am to 12:30 pm and the second shift from 3:30 pm to 7:00 pm. This move led to widespread concerns among doctors about the fairness of the exam.
Stakeholders have criticised the normalisation formula implemented for NEET PG 2024, stating that it did not provide equal marks adjustment for different shifts and encouraged malpractice. In protest, students across India demanded the publication of NEET PG answer keys and paper solutions to provide more transparency.
Some candidates who appeared for the second shift of NEET PG 2024 challenged the normalisation method adopted by NBEMS, arguing that it was detrimental to their interests. They argued that the second shift paper was much tougher than the first one and called the method of score calculation divisive. Additionally, the applicants accused the board of cheating candidates in the name of conducting a competitive exam.
Following its commitment to openness, students urged corrective action and took their arguments to the Supreme Court, insisting on accountability for the NEET PG 2024 examination process.
