The government was asked if it plans to add 75,000 medical seats in the next five years and whether these will be in new or existing medical colleges. Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare Anupriya Patel said the government is working to improve medical education. Several steps have been taken to increase the number of medical colleges and seats, leading to significant growth in the sector.

The number of medical colleges has increased to 780, 101.5% more than the 387 colleges in 2014. MBBS seats increased by 130%, from 51,348 in 2014 to 1,18,190. Postgraduate medical seats have risen 138%, from 31,185 before 2014 to 74,306 today. In the 2024-25 academic year alone, 13,436 new medical seats were added, making medical education more accessible across India.

The minister said the government runs the Central Regional Scheme to improve health and family welfare services. Under this scheme, financial help is provided for building hostels and hotels and buying furniture in government medical colleges. The cost for each seat is ₹1.20 crore. The Centre covers 90% of the price, while the State pays 10% in some regions. In other states, the cost is shared in a 60:40 ratio between the Centre and the State.

The National Medical Commission website still displays the details of documentary 117950. However, the latest government update confirms that more than 1.18 lakh of the target audience is available this time. The NMC website may publish updated information soon.

RML to Add 150 Additional MBBS Seats

The government is expanding Ram Manohar Anmol Hospital to improve healthcare services. As part of this plan, hospitalizations will increase from 100 to 250, providing more students with opportunities for medical education. Additionally, the hospital will add 666 new units, raising the total number of beds from 1,532 to 2,198.

Students across the country can take admission in MBBS, BUMS, BSMS, BHMS, BDS and BSCV&AH courses through NEET University. The NEET exam is scheduled to be held on May 4.
