IIT Ropar and Shoolini University have jointly launched a new course called “Artificial Intelligence + X”. It is a 15-credit minor program that combines Artificial Intelligence (AI) with other subjects such as agriculture, biotechnology and management. The course is designed to help students learn AI skills that match their main field of study.
The programme will follow a Learning by Practice model, meaning students will gain hands-on experience instead of just learning theory. Both IIT Ropar and Shoolini University will jointly certify students who complete the course.
As part of the initiative, the two institutions will also set up a Cyber Physical System (CPS) Lab. This modern lab will give students a chance to work on real projects in AI, Robotics, Augmented and Virtual Reality (AR/VR), Data Science, and other fast-growing technologies.
The course curriculum is created with help from the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) and edtech company Masai to make sure it matches the needs of today’s job market.
This joint effort reflects how Indian universities are moving toward skill-based, industry-focused education—especially as the demand for AI professionals continues to rise.
