New Delhi: Indraprastha Institute of Information Technology (IIIT) Delhi has introduced a new BTech program in Computer Science and Economics (CSEcon). The program combines computer science and economics, preparing students for careers in fields like finance, banking, consulting, and technology. Admission to the program will be based on JEE Mains 2025 scores and Class 12 marks.
Graduates of the CSEcon program can work as data scientists, economic analysts, financial engineers, business analysts, and software developers in industries like fintech, e-commerce, banking, and consulting. IIIT Delhi says the program will also help graduates take on leadership roles in tech-based businesses or continue their studies in economics, finance, or computer science.
Eligibility Criteria
The eligibility criteria for the IIIT Delhi B.Tech CSECON programme are as follows:
- Candidates must obtain a minimum of 70% aggregate marks in five subjects, including Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics, in Class 12 from CBSE or an equivalent board.
- Candidates must secure at least 70% marks in Mathematics in Class 12.
- Candidates must have valid JEE Mains 2025 scores.
IIIT Delhi BTech CSEcon Course Structure
IIIT Delhi’s BTech CSEcon program spans four years, combining core subjects with electives to build expertise in computer science and economics:
Years 1 & 2:
Students begin with foundational courses in computer science, economics, and mathematics. IIIT Delhi also integrates professional speaking and writing courses to enhance communication skills.
Years 3 & 4:
Students advance to specialized training through elective courses in three key areas:
- Interdisciplinary Courses: Merging computer science and economics, such as econometrics with machine learning.
- Economics Electives: Covering topics like behavioral economics and financial economics.
This program equips students with technical and analytical skills, preparing them for careers at the intersection of technology and economics.
Students can choose electives in computer science and mathematics, including courses such as statistical machine learning.
IIIT-Delhi Director Ranjan Bose said the institute connects education with real-world applications. He pointed out that the new B.Tech programmes in Computer Science and Economics will help students develop the computational and analytical skills needed for India’s growing digital economy. He said graduates will be prepared to take on challenges in fintech, e-commerce and banking. With this programme, IIIT-Delhi continues to offer an industry-focused curriculum to meet changing societal needs.
Degree Requirements
To pursue a B.Tech CSECON degree from IIIT Delhi, students must fulfil the following eligibility criteria:
- Complete 156 credits, including core and elective courses.
- Finish 2 credits each in community work and self-growth (pass/fail basis).
- Take approved online courses, with up to 8 credits counting toward the degree.
- Complete at least 32 credits in advanced economics and computer science during the final four semesters.
- Choose to work on a BTech Project (BTP), which can be spread across multiple semesters for up to 12 credits.
