Hyderabad: Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has directed all state universities to phase out outdated academic programs and immediately introduce job-oriented, market-driven courses that are in line with the current industry demand.
Addressing vice-chancellors during a strategy meeting on Friday, the chief minister emphasised the need for an overhaul of higher education in Telangana. He directed universities to eliminate irrelevant courses that continue only because of long-standing faculty appointments and urged them to implement advanced, career-focused programmes that enhance the employability of students.
Revanth Reddy also advised university heads to assign administrative roles to faculty members teaching obsolete subjects to ensure that academic resources are utilised efficiently. “Universities should serve students and not serve as rehabilitation centres for underutilised professors,” he said.
To tackle common challenges in higher education, including a shortage of teachers and a lack of infrastructure, the Chief Minister asked all Vice-Chancellors to collaborate with State Government Advisor K. Kesava Rao. He requested a consolidated report detailing practical solutions and reforms needed to enhance the quality of education in Telangana’s public universities.
The Chief Minister also assured full financial support from the State Government to upgrade facilities, recruit skilled teachers and raise academic standards.
Highlighting the educational gap between private and government institutions, Revanth Reddy stressed that state universities must create an ecosystem where students from rural and economically weaker backgrounds can access high-quality, desired education.
He said, “While affluent students choose private universities that offer trending and skill-based courses, public universities must also provide the same level of competitive education to empower underprivileged youth.
By introducing modern, employment-oriented academic programs, Telangana aims to transform its higher education landscape and ensure brighter career prospects for its students.
