New Delhi: The National Medical Commission (NMC) now requires faculty members to complete the Basic Course in Medical Education Technology (BCMET) for promotion to associate professor and professor. They must complete this training at institutes approved by the NMC to be eligible.
According to the NMC public notice, Paragraph 6 of the Teacher Eligibility Qualification Regulation, 2022, defines the eligibility criteria for faculty appointments and promotions in broad speciality (MD/MS) and super speciality (DM/MCH) in recognized medical colleges. The regulation clearly requires faculty members to complete BCMET training before qualifying for higher academic posts.
For faculty appointments in government medical colleges, where positions have been sanctioned and filled at the last minute, the Postgraduate Medical Education Board (PGMEB) requires an affidavit from the Principal Secretary of Medical Education in the respective state or union territory. This affidavit must confirm that the appointed faculty will complete the BCMET training within the next academic year.
NMC has set a deadline for faculty members to complete this mandatory training before inviting applications for Letter of Permission (LoP) for the academic year 2026-27, which is expected in October 2025.
