Jaipur, Rajasthan – In a major shift in Rajasthan’s medical education system, the Rajasthan University of Health Sciences (RUHS), Jaipur, and Marwar Medical University (MMU), Jodhpur, have decided to scrap the NEET UG requirement for admissions into nursing and allied medical courses. Instead, students will now have to appear for university-level entrance exams to secure admission in courses like B.Sc. Nursing, Bachelor of Physiotherapy (BPT), Bachelor of Radiation Technology (BRT), and Bachelor of Medical Lab Technology (BMLT).
Initially, these courses required NEET UG scores for admission. However, students were given very little time to apply, leading to widespread concerns. Many aspirants, particularly from remote areas, struggled with the application process. Moreover, the difference in syllabus between NEET UG and RUHS entrance exams added to their difficulties.
Big Relief for Students
This decision has come as a major relief for students who previously struggled to secure admission due to the NEET UG requirement. Here’s how this change benefits students:
- More Time to Prepare – Students can now take a university-level exam that aligns better with their curriculum.
- Easier Syllabus – The university exam syllabus will match students’ existing coursework, making preparation smoother.
- Better Accessibility – Candidates from remote areas who found it difficult to apply online will now have a fair chance.
For now, NEET UG-based admissions for these courses have been postponed until the 2026-27 session. This year, universities will conduct their own entrance exams for admissions.
Key Reasons Behind This Change
- Massive student protests and complaints
- Limited time for application submission
- Mismatch between NEET UG and RUHS syllabus
- Challenges faced by students from remote areas
With this significant change, medical aspirants in Rajasthan now have more flexibility and better opportunities to pursue their dream careers without the mandatory requirement of NEET UG.
