New Delhi: Following the Supreme Court’s intervention in the NEET 2024 controversy, the National Testing Agency (NTA) has made major changes to the NEET 2025 exam pattern and procedure. If you are preparing for NEET 2025, staying updated about these changes is vital for your success.
Why NEET 2025 Has Changed: Supreme Court’s Role
The NEET-UG 2024 exam came under intense scrutiny as a massive paper leak shook the entire country. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) began investigating the incident, especially in Bihar and Patna. On July 23, 2024, the Supreme Court cancelled NEET-UG 2024, citing concerns over the integrity of the exam. Although the court did not find any widespread systemic failure, it directed the central government to improve the functioning of the National Testing Agency.
In response, the Ministry of Education constituted a seven-member expert committee headed by former ISRO chairman Dr. K. Radhakrishnan. The committee submitted its report on November 5, 2024, and the government approved the recommendations on April 7, 2025.
What’s New in NEET 2025? Key Changes You Should Know
1. Strict Surveillance at Exam Centers
NTA has introduced advanced CCTV surveillance and real-time monitoring at all NEET 2025 exam centres. Officials will now carry question papers in GPS-enabled, locked vehicles, eliminating the use of unsafe modes like e-rickshaws. This measure ensures better security and transparency.
2. Fixed Deadlines for Registration and Exam Center Change
Under the new standard operating procedures (SOP), the NTA will finalise the registration process and exam centre change requests at least 30 days before the exam. This rule ensures a smoother and more organised exam schedule.
3. Limited NEET Attempts for Candidates
The expert panel has recommended that the NTA limit the number of attempts for NEET. While the official announcement is pending, reports suggest that a maximum of 3 to 5 attempts for each candidate may be implemented from NEET 2025.
4. Revised NEET 2025 Syllabus
NTA has released the updated NEET 2025 syllabus aligning it with the latest NCERT syllabus. The changes include topic revisions in Biology, Physics, and Chemistry, ensuring relevance to current academic standards.
5. Online Exam Proposal – But NEET 2025 Remains Offline
The committee suggested shifting NEET to an online format to minimise the risk of paper leaks. However, NTA has confirmed that NEET 2025 will be conducted in pen-and-paper mode. This decision may change in future editions depending on the feasibility and infrastructure.
