The NTA will soon release the JEE Main 2025 answer key for the April exam, which will help candidates know their scores. Experts say that candidates need to score 170+ marks out of 300 to get 99 percentile. The cutoff to qualify for JEE Advanced 2025 is expected to be around 93-94 percentile for general category candidates.
NTA will declare the JEE Main 2025 cutoff for JEE Advanced 2025 by April 17, along with the results for session 2. The first 2.5 lakh candidates of JEE Main 2025 will be eligible to appear for JEE Advanced 2025. Registration for JEE Advanced 2025 will begin on April 23 and will be held on May 18.
JEE Main 2025 Expected Cutoff for JEE Advanced Category-Wise
Experts have observed that when 8 to 10 lakh students used to take the JEE Main exam, the cutoff score usually ranged between 88 to 90 percentile. However, in 2024, the number of students increased to 14 lakh, and the cutoff scores also increased. Last year’s cutoff was the highest in the last five years for all categories.
Talking about this year, around 13 lakh students appeared in the January session of JEE Mains 2025. The National Testing Agency (NTA) is yet to announce the number of candidates for the April exam. If the combined number of candidates appearing in both the January and April sessions is once again around 14 lakh, then we can expect the cutoff to be similar to last year. If even more students appear this year, the cutoff score may increase even more.
Based on trends and analysis of the January and April JEE Main 2025 sessions, the expected cutoff for qualifying for JEE Advanced 2025 is as follows:
- General Category: Expected cutoff is around 93 to 94 percentile.
- OBC Category: The expected cutoff is around 79 to 83 percentile. The cutoff may rise due to a high number of OBC candidates in the January session.
- SC/ST Categories: The expected cutoff is between 48 and 65 percentile.
- Gen-EWS: The expected cutoff is between 83 and 86 percentile.

The JEE Advanced cutoff is affected by a few factors. The difficulty level of the January and April exams matters a lot. If the exam is difficult, the cutoff will be low; if the exam is easy, the cutoff will be high. Candidates compare both the sessions, and the final cutoff is adjusted accordingly.
The number of candidates appearing and the number of candidates scoring above the cutoff also affect the result. If more students score high marks, the cutoff for JEE Advanced may increase.
Changes in qualifying criteria or the number of seats in institutes can also affect the cutoff. Recent minor changes in these areas have led to variations in the cutoff ranks.
Since JEE Main is conducted in different shifts and sessions, a normalization process adjusts for differences in difficulty levels. This process significantly affects the JEE Main 2025 cutoff for JEE Advanced 2025.
