New Delhi, March 10, 2025 – The Directorate of Education (DoE) has released fresh guidelines for Delhi School Admission 2025, detailing the admission process for entry-level classes, Classes 1 to 9, and Class 11 in government-run special schools. The circular, issued on March 6, 2025, outlines the criteria for students transferring from other institutions and out-of-school children.
Admission Guidelines for Classes 6 to 9
Students who have successfully completed their previous class in a recognized school can be directly admitted to Classes 6 to 9. However, out-of-school children seeking admission to Class 6 must undergo an assessment test to evaluate their literacy and numeracy skills.
For Classes 7 and 8, students without prior schooling in a recognized institution can be admitted based on a parental undertaking. Admission to Class 9 requires proof of passing Class 8 from a recognized school.
Age Criteria and Relaxation
The DoE has set specific age limits for admission, applicable as of March 31, 2025:
- Entry-Level Classes: Nursery (3-7 years), Kindergarten (4-8 years), Class 1 (5-9 years), up to Class 5 (9-14 years).
- Mid-Level Classes: Class 6 (10-16 years) to Class 9 (13-19 years).
- Class 11: 15-21 years.
A six-month relaxation in the age limit may be granted at the discretion of the school administration upon parental request.
Admission Guidelines for Class 11
Students seeking admission to Class 11 must have passed the Class 10 examination. Those from the National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) need at least 50% marks in five subjects for humanities (without skill subjects) and 45% marks for humanities (with skill subjects).
Special Provisions for Students with Disabilities
The guidelines outline specific requirements for students with disabilities:
- Blind students must submit a disability certificate or a Unique Disability ID (UDID) card.
- Intellectually disabled students must be classified under moderate to profound disability based on IQ levels.
- Hearing-impaired students must have a severe to profound hearing loss (above 61 dB) and undergo PTA (hearing test) and IQ assessments.
Preference for Local Students and Hostel Facilities
Due to transport constraints, students from Trans-Yamuna areas will receive priority in admissions. Additionally, preference will be given to Delhi-based children, while non-resident students may apply for hostel facilities if seats remain vacant after local admissions. Siblings of existing students in special government schools will also receive preference.
Online Admission Process and Seat Allotment
All admissions will be conducted online through the official DoE website. If applications exceed available seats, a draw of lots will be conducted to ensure a fair selection process.
With these new guidelines, the Delhi government aims to simplify the admission process while ensuring fair opportunities for all students, including those with disabilities, in government-run special schools.
