The program focuses on applied mathematics and its wide applications in industries and research. It prepares students to work on challenges such as disease modeling, climate analysis, and fluid dynamics simulations.

Alexander Ray, Programme Director of the MSc in Advanced Mathematical Modelling, said the course addresses the global demand for mathematically skilled professionals. “Our students develop the creativity and precision needed to solve critical problems using mathematical models,” he said.

The master’s program covers key topics such as mathematical biology, continuum mechanics, optimization, and numerical methods. Students will actively develop and analyze models to solve real-world problems in areas such as climate modeling, fluid dynamics, healthcare, and engineering design.

The University will host a free webinar on May 15, 2025, at 13:00 BST, where students can get a full overview of the program, its benefits, and career opportunities

The program’s curriculum is based on applied mathematics. It covers key areas such as mathematical biology, fluid dynamics, machine learning, and numerical analysis.

The university said that students will have the opportunity to do a hands-on research project in which they will work together with academic staff or industry partners. Through the project, students can work on real-world problems in fields such as engineering, finance, and science.

In this course, candidates learn both analytical and computational techniques. They can choose from a wide range of modules in Semesters 1 and 2, including subjects like optimization, deep learning, and finite element methods.

In Semester 3, students carry out an individual research project. They use mathematical modeling techniques to solve real problems related to industry or research. This project helps them gain valuable skills in independent research, problem-solving, and career development.

    Eligibility and Scholarships

To apply for this course, students must have at least a second class (2:2) honours degree or an international equivalent degree in mathematics, computer science or a related subject with strong mathematical content.

The university also considers applicants with relevant work experience and professional qualifications. All applicants must have an IELTS score of at least 6.0, with no section below 5.5, to meet the English language requirement.

The university will offer 850 Glasgow International Masters Scholarships for students starting in September 2025, each worth £5,000 (approximately ₹5,60,009).

After completing the MSc program, students can explore career opportunities in a range of fields, including engineering, manufacturing, finance, risk modeling, data science, machine learning, energy and environmental modeling, healthcare, and biomedical research.
