UGC, NEW DELHI: The University Grant Commission (UGC) has notified “Deeksharambh”- A guide to the Student Induction Program which can be accessed at ugc.gov.in/ebook/DEEKSHARAMBH-ENGLISH.pdf, to make the transition from Secondary to College/University effortless. One of the mandates set by the University Grants Commission to achieve quality in Higher Education is the Student Induction Program.
“As the Academic Session is likely to commence soon, Colleges/Universities are mandated to take appropriate initiatives to organize a Student Induction Program for newly admitted students in the university and upload an Action Plan/Photographs/Videos of the Induction Program conducted on UGC University Activity Monitoring Portal (UAMP)- uamp.ugc.ac.in“- UGC notification stated.
The purpose of the Deeksharambh – Student Induction Program is to help new students adjust and feel comfortable in the new environment, inculcate in them the ethos and culture of the institution, help them build bonds with other students and faculty members, and expose them to a sense of larger purpose and self-exploration.
Deeksharambh will cover many different aspects (SAGE):
- Socializing: meeting new students, senior students, students union, and faculty members.
- Associating: visits to University/college, visits to Dept./Branch/ Program of study, and important places on campus.
- Governing: rules and regulations, student support, etc;
- Experiencing: Subject lectures, study skills, small-group activities, physical activity, creative and performing arts, literary activities, etc.
