New Delhi: The National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test Postgraduate (NEET PG) 2025 counselling is expected to begin shortly, with the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) set to release the schedule for 50% All India Quota (AIQ) seats any day now.
Meanwhile, uncertainty remains as the Supreme Court has adjourned the hearing of a plea against the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) over its new system of releasing exam data. The petition, which calls for greater transparency in the postgraduate medical entrance exam, is now scheduled to be heard later this week.
The plea pointed out that MCC counselling is expected to start on or after September 5, 2025, and urged the court for an urgent hearing. It further alleged that the revised disclosure mechanism adopted by NBEMS for answer keys is “opaque, unintelligible, and incapable of meaningful verification.”
In its August 21, 2025 notice, the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) clarified that question sequences and answer options in NEET PG were shuffled for every candidate. To ensure uniformity, the Board stated that questions, correct answers, and responses would be displayed according to the Master Question Paper.
The matter was heard on September 1, 2025, by a bench led by the Chief Justice of India and Justice K. Vinod Chandran, which noted that the plea relates to the interpretation of the Supreme Court’s April 29, 2025 order. The case has now been directed to the bench headed by Justice J.B. Pardiwala.
The April order, delivered by Justices Pardiwala and R. Mahadevan, had laid down 10 key directives to reform the NEET PG examination process, including publication of raw scores, answer keys, and the normalisation formula.
The NEET PG Exam was conducted on August 3, and results were declared on August 19. With lakhs of medical graduates awaiting admission, the upcoming MCC counselling schedule is expected to bring much-needed clarity on postgraduate seat allocation.
