New Delhi: The escalating conflict between India and Pakistan is triggering widespread disruptions beyond the battlefield, particularly affecting students across several states. As military confrontations intensify and diplomatic tensions rise, educational institutions and examination bodies have initiated precautionary measures.
Authorities in Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, Rajasthan, Haryana, and Chandigarh have closed schools to ensure student safety. At least seven states remain on high alert. The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) has postponed CA Final and Intermediate examinations scheduled between May 9 and May 14 across 12 cities.
Panjab University cancelled all exams planned for May 9 and 10, while the Jammu and Kashmir State Eligibility Test (JKSET) and Ladakh SET have been deferred until further notice.
With universities, colleges, and schools suspending operations in sensitive regions, students face significant uncertainty. ICAI earlier cancelled the CA 2025 exams in Chandigarh, Bhuj, Jammu, Srinagar, Amritsar, Bathinda, Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Pathankot, Bikaner, Jodhpur, and Sri Ganganagar.
Several state governments have enforced stringent precautionary protocols. Punjab has ordered the closure of all schools in six border districts — Ferozepur, Pathankot, Fazilka, Amritsar, and Gurdaspur. In western Rajasthan, authorities have implemented a nighttime blackout from 9 PM to 4 AM and instructed all government and private schools in Sri Ganganagar, Bikaner, Jodhpur, Jaisalmer, and Barmer to shut down.
In Delhi, officials sounded a high alert on Thursday evening. The government cancelled all leaves of city employees to ensure readiness. Rising hostilities have led to cross-border shelling in several regions, including Jammu.
According to official sources, Pakistani military forces attempted to target multiple Indian cities — including Awantipura, Srinagar, Jammu, Pathankot, Amritsar, Kapurthala, Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Adampur, Bhatinda, Chandigarh, Nal, Phalodi, Uttarlai, and Bhuj. However, Indian forces thwarted the attempts and destroyed a Pakistani air defence system in Lahore.
Law enforcement in Delhi has heightened vigilance. “All DCPs are actively monitoring law and order in their respective zones,” officials confirmed. “They have briefed ACPs and SHOs and are personally overseeing preparedness. Delhi Police remains fully equipped to manage any contingency.”
