GGSIPU Notice 2026-27: Category Certificate Verification Rules Explained

Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University (GGSIPU) has issued an important notice for all UG and PG applicants for the 2026-27 academic session, cautioning candidates about the verification of category certificates and marksheets submitted during the admission process.

• Document verification: All applicants who applied through the NIC Portal for UG/PG programmes are informed that certificates and documents uploaded to claim seats under reserved categories – including SC, ST, OBC, Defence, EWS, and PwD – may be forwarded to the concerned issuing authorities for authenticity checks.
• Defence category candidates: Those seeking admission under the Defence category must produce both the prescribed Appendix-I form and the relevant supporting documents corresponding to their claimed priority, as outlined in sub-para 6.1.5 of Chapter 6 (Reservation Policy) of the UG/PG Admission Brochure 2026-27. This must be done at the time of physical reporting at the allotted institute. Any failure to produce these documents, or discrepancies found during verification, will result in cancellation of admission and forfeiture of fees, along with possible legal action.
• Original certificates required: Candidates allotted seats under any category or sub-category in any round must produce valid original category/sub-category certificates at the time of reporting to their respective institute or University School of Studies (USS).
• Warning against fraudulent documents: The University has warned that all submitted documents must be authentic, valid, and issued by the competent authority in the prescribed format. Submission of forged, fabricated, digitally altered, or otherwise invalid documents may lead to cancellation of admission, forfeiture of fees, and other legal or disciplinary action.
• Advisory to candidates: GGSIPU has advised all applicants to regularly check the University website (www.ipu.ac.in) and the online admission portal (https://ipu.admissions.nic.in) for updates, and to refer to the Admission Brochure for AS 2026-27 for detailed guidelines.

Background: GGSIPU’s Reservation Framework

GGSIPU’s admission process runs on a seat-distribution model where candidates from the Delhi region receive 85 percent of seats while those from outside Delhi receive 15 percent, with additional category-wise reservations layered on top for SC, ST, OBC (Delhi only), EWS, Defence, and PwD candidates, all of which have a direct bearing on cut-offs and seat allotment outcomes.

The University typically follows a strict rule that a candidate claiming a seat under the Delhi SC/ST/OBC category must produce a certificate issued by the Government of NCT of Delhi, corresponding to the region where they passed their qualifying examination. Certificates issued by other state governments are generally not accepted for Delhi-region reserved seats.

Similarly, horizontal reservations exist for PwD and Defence categories. As per past brochure provisions, 5% of seats are horizontally reserved for PwD candidates across every region and category, and a similar 5% horizontal reservation applies to the Defence category. In both cases, if no eligible candidate is available to fill these seats, the seats revert to the unreserved pool of that particular category.
