    Two Deadlines Converge Today

According to the official JoSAA 2026 schedule, two important activities are scheduled to close today, by 5:00 PM (17:00 IST):

    • Resolution of fee payment issues (Round 4): Candidates facing technical or payment-related glitches in completing their Round 4 seat acceptance fee must get these resolved by today.
    • Withdrawal/exit from seat allocation (Round 4): The window for initiating withdrawal of seat or exit from the seat allocation process for Round 4 runs from July 11, 2026, 10:00 IST to July 14, 2026, 17:00 IST.

Why This Deadline Is So Important

Once today’s window closes, the rules change completely for IIT and IISc aspirants. The IIT/IISc withdrawal window running from July 11 to 14 is the only opportunity to withdraw from an accepted IIT or IISc seat before Round 5 begins no withdrawal is possible once Round 5 is released on July 16.

For IITs and IISc, withdrawal is available only from Round 2 up to Round 4, with no provision to exit after Round 5 commences. This makes today’s cut-off effectively a point of no return for anyone reconsidering their IIT or IISc allotment.

Candidates in the NIT+ system (NITs, IIITs, GFTIs), however, are not bound by today’s deadline. NIT+ candidates may still initiate a seat withdrawal or exit during the Round 5 window between July 16 and July 20, before Partial Admission Fee payment.

What Happens If You Withdraw Today

Candidates who choose to exit voluntarily before the final round are eligible for a partial refund of their Seat Acceptance Fee. A clean, voluntary online withdrawal executed before the final round carries a total deduction of Rs 7,000, applied uniformly across all candidate categories. This means a candidate who paid the Rs 30,000 seat acceptance fee receives a net refund of Rs 23,000, while one who paid Rs 15,000 receives Rs 8,000 back.

To initiate this, candidates need to log in to josaa.nic.in using their JEE Main or JEE Advanced credentials, locate the Seat Withdrawal or Exit tab on their dashboard, enter their banking details, upload a cancelled cheque or passbook copy, and complete the process via OTP verification.

    What Happens Next

After today’s deadline passes, the process moves forward as follows:

    Next StepDate
    Response to withdrawal-related queries (Round 4)July 15, 2026, by 5:00 PM
Round 5 seat allotment (final round for IITs/IISc)July 16, 2026

Round 4 was also the last round in which candidates could use the float or slide options these will not be available in Round 5, the final round of JoSAA counselling. In the final round, candidates can only accept (freeze) the seat or let the allotment lapse.

    Advice for Candidates

Anyone allotted a seat at an IIT or IISc who is genuinely reconsidering whether due to branch preference, location, or other factors needs to act before 5:00 PM today. Once Round 5 opens on July 16, the seat becomes fully and permanently locked, with no exit route left for IIT and IISc candidates.
