New Delhi: The NEET UG 2025 exam was held on 4 May, 2025 and lakhs of students are eager to know, how this year’s paper compares to last year. As per early feedback suggest that the paper was moderate to difficult with some sections tougher than in 2024. Experts and students are now analysing question trends, section-wise difficulty and the possible impact on this year’s cut-off scores.
Overall Paper Review: Balanced but Not Easy
Experts say the NEET UG 2025 paper was slightly tougher than NEET 2024. While Biology was mostly theoretical and NCERT-based, Physics and Chemistry had more numerical and conceptual questions.
“The paper was balanced but not easy. Physics was trickier than last year, while Biology was straightforward for those who focused on NCERT,” said Dr. Amit Kumar, NEET Mentor at Aakash Institute.
Subject-wise Analysis
1. Biology (Botany & Zoology)
- Most questions were directly from NCERT.
- Botany was theory-based, while Zoology had a few diagram-based and applied questions.
- Key topics: Genetics, Human Physiology, Ecology.
- Experts found it scoring and similar to last year for well-prepared students.
2. Chemistry
- Physical Chemistry was calculation-heavy, especially from Electrochemistry and Thermodynamics.
- Organic Chemistry focused on reaction mechanisms and named reactions.
- Inorganic Chemistry followed NCERT, but with some tricky surprises.
“Those who practiced numericals would manage Chemistry well, but theory-only students may have found it tough,” said Prof. Rajesh Mehta, Allen Kota.
3. Physics
- Called the toughest section by most students.
- Focused on Mechanics and Electrodynamics, with long and complex problems.
- Modern Physics was easier but had some tricky MCQs.
“Physics was definitely tougher than 2024. Speed and accuracy were crucial,” said Dr. Sanjay Verma, Physics Coach.
NEET 2025 vs NEET 2024
- Biology: Similar level but slightly more application-based.
- Chemistry: Harder due to more numericals.
- Physics: Much tougher, more time-consuming and concept-based.
Expected Cut-Off Trends
Due to tougher Physics and Chemistry sections, the overall cut-off may drop slightly compared to last year.
- General Category: Likely between 680–720 (2024: 700–720)
- OBC/SC/ST: Slight dip expected.
“Physics was tough for many students. A drop of 5–10 marks in the cut-off is possible,” said Mr. Anil Bhargava, NEET Counselling Expert.
What Should Students Do Next?
- Wait for NTA’s official answer key (coming soon).
- Check your answers and estimate your score.
- Start researching medical colleges based on expected marks.
- Prepare for counselling and keep options open through state quota and other exams like AIIMS and JIPMER.
NEET UG 2025 was tougher than last year, especially due to Physics and Chemistry. Still students who focused on NCERT and practiced problem-solving stand a good chance. The next step now is to check answer keys, stay calm and plan your next steps carefully for counselling.
