Mumbai: Maharashtra will implement the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) curriculum from the academic year 2025-26, state school education minister Dada Bhuse announced on Friday.
Bhuse announced that the state will implement the CBSE pattern in two phases. Currently, the Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education (MSBSHSE) conducts exams for Class X (SSC or Secondary School Certificate) and Class XII (HSC or Higher Secondary Certificate).
He said that the government will implement the CBSE pattern in class 1 in the first phase. In the coming year, they will train teachers and education officers for the CBSE pattern. He also informed that next year, the government will adopt the CBSE pattern in the remaining classes in two phases.
The minister assured that the government will include Maharashtra’s history, geography and Marathi language in the curriculum while adopting the CBSE pattern.
NCP (SP) leader and Baramati MP Supriya Sule wrote a letter to Bhuse expressing concern over the decision.
She criticised the state for replacing the SSC board with the CBSE board and called it a painful move. She warned that this change could harm the Marathi language and culture. Sule also stressed that parents should have the freedom to choose between various boards, including the SSC. Moreover, she questioned whether the CBSE pattern could accurately represent Maharashtra’s history and language.
