New Delhi: Haryana Education Minister Mahipal Dhanda on Wednesday said the school education department has taken several steps during the last ten years to increase access to quality education and enhance learning levels in government schools. Currently, 14,295 government schools are running in the state.

Teacher Recruitment Update
To address the problem of shortage of teachers, the education department had issued a demand letter to the Haryana Public Service Commission (HPSC) in July 2024 for the recruitment of 4,780 PGT teachers for various subjects. Of these, recommendations have been received for 1,704 posts and the process of issuing appointment letters has been started by the department, which is likely to be completed before the start of the next academic session.
Infrastructure Strengthening
The government school infrastructure was re-assessed in the financial year 2023-24. The assessment took into consideration the student enrollment base for classrooms, other rooms, and boundary walls. To improve infrastructure, ₹473.44 crore was released by the state, of which ₹306.84 crore have been sanctioned during the current financial year. The rest will be released soon.
Dhanda also pointed out that all the government schools in Haryana have access to basic amenities, such as drinking water, boys’ and girls’ toilets, and electricity connections.
