During the preliminary investigation, the police identified Bilal Ahmed (30) from Jaunpur and Suraj Prakash (32) from Ghaziabad. They took Rs 10 lakh to Rs 15 lakh per fake certificate from the students and assured them of getting degrees from Kazakhstan, Romania and other countries.

The police report quoted by TOI revealed that the scam came to light when Arpit Jain, a resident of Sardhana in Meerut, paid Rs 5.8 lakh to Prakash for admission in a medical college in Romania. Instead of ensuring admission, Prakash handed over a fake certificate to settle the matter.

During the raid, police seized fake migration certificates, mark sheets and degrees belonging to Chaudhary Charan Singh University. Digital evidence recovered from Prakash’s phone exposed a large network of students who had secured fake degrees.

Investigators later arrested Bilal, who went by the name Brajesh Kumar. Officials also seized three mobile phones and a laptop containing data of around 15 Indian universities. The investigation is ongoing as officials work to identify and nab more people involved in the scam targeting students seeking foreign medical admissions.
