Bengal Education Council To Question Madrassah Over Students’ Attack On Exam Invigilators

Class 12 students in Malda attacked invigilators following a search at an examination centre, prompting the West Bengal Higher Secondary Education Council to take strict action, including possible disqualification and legal action.

The West Bengal Higher Secondary Education Council on Thursday announced that it will ask the higher madrassa management in the Malda district to explain how Class 12 students attacked seven invigilators after they were frisked before entering the examination centre.

Council president Chiranjeev Bhattacharya said the Kamditola High Madrasa authorities should identify the students involved in the incident. He also vowed to disqualify them from this year’s Class 12 board exams.

On Wednesday, some students attacked seven exam invigilators, including a woman, outside an examination centre in Baishnabnagar in Malda. The council said officials, following exam rules to prevent cheating, checked students at the gate of Chamagram High School to ensure they were not carrying mobile phones or other digital devices.

The statement said some students attacked seven teachers of Chamagram High School, and four of them needed treatment at the primary health centre. “We are sending a letter to the school management to find out which students were involved in the attack,” Bhattacharya said.

He said, “Once we confirm the allegations and identify the students, we will take action against them, such as cancelling their exams and taking legal action.” “The council will not allow such bad behaviour from any student,” Bhattacharya said.

The state started conducting the Class 12 board exams on March 3, and they will continue until March 18.
