JoSAA 2026 75% Criteria Row Intensifies: Students Demand Extension of July 15 Marks Submission Deadline

The controversy surrounding the Class 12 marks eligibility requirement for IIT admissions through JoSAA 2026 is showing no signs of cooling down. Students across the country are now demanding that IIT Roorkee extend the July 15, 2026 deadline for submitting revised scorecards a deadline that many feel is unrealistic given ongoing board result delays and re-evaluation processes.

    Don't Miss Exam Updates 2026

    What’s the Issue?

IIT Roorkee, the organising institute of JEE Advanced 2026, has clarified that candidates who qualified JEE Advanced 2026 but do not currently meet the Class 12 marks eligibility criteria can still participate in the JoSAA counselling process and fill their choices for admission.

However, these candidates are required to submit a revised scorecard meeting the eligibility criteria by July 15, 2026, via email at orgjee@iitr.ac.in. Admission will be confirmed only after the revised scorecard is received and verified.

    Who Does This Affect?

Candidates belonging to the General, OBC-NCL and EWS categories who have secured less than 75% marks in Class 12, and candidates from the SC, ST and PwD categories who have obtained less than 65% marks, fall under this provision. While they can participate in seat allocation based on their JEE Advanced rank, their admission remains conditional.

Students Concern: The Deadline is Too Tight

The core grievance is timing. Many students are currently awaiting results of board re-evaluations, supplementary exams, or improvement exams processes that often extend well beyond July 15. Students argue that the deadline does not account for:

    • Delays in CBSE, state board re-checking and re-evaluation results
    • Improvement exam schedules that fall in July
    • Time required for the official marksheet dispatch after the result declaration

Social media is flooded with posts from anxious students asking IIT Roorkee to either extend the deadline or provide a grace period for those actively undergoing board score improvement processes.

    What IIT Roorkee Has Said

The institute stated: “Once this is received, admission will be given for the seat allotted to you after the fourth round.” Importantly, there is no official update on marks relaxation on the official JoSAA website josaa.nic.in.

    Key Dates to Remember

    EventDate
JoSAA Choice Filling ClosesJune 11, 2026 (5 PM)
    Round 4 EndsJuly 14, 2026
Revised Scorecard Submission DeadlineJuly 15, 2026
    Round 5 BeginsJuly 16, 2026

    What Should Affected Students Do?

    1. Participate in counselling regardless of your choices before June 11, 5 PM. Do not wait.
    2. Apply for re-evaluation/improvement immediately if your marks are below the cutoff.
    3. Track your board’s result and marksheet dispatch schedule closely.
    4. Email IIT Roorkee at orgjee@iitr.ac.in if you need clarification on your specific situation.
    5. Keep checking josaa.nic.in for any official deadline extension announcements.

While IIT Roorkee has taken a student-friendly step by allowing below-threshold candidates to participate in seat allocation, the July 15 revised marksheet deadline remains a pain point. Whether the institute will relent and extend the deadline, as students are vocally demanding, remains to be seen. Entrance Fever will keep you updated with any official announcements.
